Two more episodes to watch and I'll have finished season II.

Some thoughts about the characters on the show.

I've watched ALIAS up to the two parter "Passage". After Irina and Jack put my TV screen on fire with their UST, I decided it was time for a little break. :-)

Since yesterday, I'm watching Firefly once more and oh, there are no words to express how much I love this show!!

The Firefly universe feels very real - like a place you could step into to take some holiday.
I like the mix of cultures and history (modern tech exists next to primitive ways).
I also like how the characters talk: On TV, usually one character talks after another so everything can be clearly understood. In real life, there are many occasions where this just doesn't happen. Well, Firefly takes that into account. People sitting around the table at mealtimes talk simultanously or interrupt one another and it just feels so real you want to sit there too and join in.

The characters could easily be stereotypes (e.g. Jayne = the tough guy, Kaylee = the sweet girl), but they are not! Every one has little character quirks that make them truly come to life. And they have the talent to surprise you with their actions as well. It delighted me to see that Jayne knows a word like "pretentious" or that Zoe doesn't want to spend time on a core planet or that Kaylee likes dresses with ruffles. :-)

And the plot of the episodes is good, too. So far there's not one show I didn't enjoy!

Some of my favorite quotes - just for fun:
Pitter patter. The sound of tiny feet in combat boots.
She's terse. I can be terse.

And now I have to finish watching "War Stories". :-)

I've started watching season II of ALIAS yesterday and am up to episode 4 right now.

On another note, I got my Firefly DVD last week, but decided to go on with watching ALIAS and then move on to Firefly. Of course, there's also Dr Who waiting for me. And I'm curious about Battlestar Galactica. And I want to finish watching the first season of Carnivale. Also haven't seen Batman Begins or War of the Worlds yet.
I don't think I need work to keep me busy. :-)

I still haven't managed to reach a very good friend of mine in London and am a bit worried. On her mobile I get the helpful message that the user is temporarily not available, no response under her home number either and she hasn't replied to my mail. Now we're not in contact on a weekly basis, so she might be out of town without me knowing about it. Still if I haven't reached her by tomorrow I'll give her parents a ring.

To take my mind of worrying I watched the last four episodes of the first ALIAS season.
This show is getting better and better. While it would be possible to do a lot of nitpicking concerning minor things, the overall plot is extremely well done. I'm also impressed by how well emotional moments are handled. IMO, emotions and quiet scenes are much more difficult to pull off than action scenes. In ALIAS we not only get flashy action, though, but some very convincing emotional moments. I'm thinking about Arvin and Emily here or Vaughn's "I'm in" speech.

Watching the season finale made me very happy, because three of my theories turned out right. I'm putting this behind an LJ cut in case someone hasn't seen the show yet and doesn't want to be spoiled.

After having watched the entire first season, I'd love to read some fanfiction. Can someone recommend me some good stories that do not give away spoilers for other seasons? (Usually I don't mind spoilers, but building crazy theories about what happens next is so much fun in the ALIAS universe.)

Pairing wise ALIAS is a very rich fandom:
There are the obvious pairings of Sydney/Vaughn or Sydney/Will or Sydney/Noah. (Side note: Noah gets the prize for the character I liked least so far. Had a hard time understanding why Sydney was in love with him.) There's, of course, Arvin/Emily or Jack/Irina.
But there are also lot of other possibilies, especially when you bring in Sark. Hey, I can even see Jack/Will.

The ALIAS episode Page 47 is my favorite so far.

First of all, it's lovely to see Arvin Sloane in his private life, to meet his wife and to see how he and Emily interact.

This is topped by Will Tippin being the dinner guest. The irony made me jump up and down in my seat. :-)
And then it gets even better: Jack Bristow is invited, too. And he appears to be totally mortified by the situation.
But yes, it gets even better: The dinner conversation about the evil boss who kills his workers when they try to leave his company. This was were I started laughing out loud.
Now if Will knew with who he was having dinner he would probably faint.

In addition to the brilliant dinner scene, we also get a big shock when Arvin enters his private office and finds Sydney there. I really don't know how much he has seen. He's definitely suspicious though.

The end of the episode: I'm not sure I like it. As soon as everyone went pale, when looking at page 47, I knew what it would show.

Regarding Will Tippin and his conversations with "the man behind the bug": I'm pretty sure he was talking to Jack Bristow there. (I'm a bit in doubt now, because if it's Jack it means that he found the time to talk to Will while SD6 was under attack. But then ALIAS logic is occasionally different from Earth logic as [personal profile] selenak pointed out.) I'd like my suspicion to be correct though, because I'd like the irony that Jack also gets the job to scare Will Tippin away from pursuing the story.

Totally unrelated:
- Sarks looks as if he could be an interesting character.
- The nickname "The Man" cracks me up every time, especially how you can see the capital letters when people say the name. Maybe I can ask my coworkers to call me "The Woman".
- There are some very attractive men in ALIAS. I'd be hard-pressed to rank them in order of attractiveness. :-)

And, of course, I'm still trying to figure out who hugs Jack for the first time. So far I guessed Arvin Sloane (wrong), Marshall (wrong) and Vaughn (wrong). My guess after watching Page 47 is Will Tippin, because it would be so very ironic.

Yesterday was the last day of the Munich film festival and I finally found the time to watch two films.

"Die Bergkatze" was a fun experience:

Weekend again! After it was so hot for nearly the entire week now it's raining, raining, raining. Which is excellent, because I can stay home all day watching DVDs without the feeling that I really should go outside and enjoy the sunshine. :-)

I've watched the first 7 episodes of ALIAS over the last couple of days.
While there's lots of action (incredibly stylish agents performing incredibly dangerous tasks), there's already much more to the show than that. I enjoy that all the characters have issues and it's fun to learn more about them. I also enjoy the ongoing story line.
At the moment, Jack Bristow is definitely my favorite character. He needs a hug - but then a hug would scare him more than anything.
He only had about three scenes with Sloane so far, but yes, they have chemistry all right.

What amuses me is that during watching ALIAS I suspect double motives behind basically every character. I can get rid of my day-to-day paranoia while watching the show. Feels very refreshing. :-)
