ALIAS - season II
Jul. 26th, 2005 10:31 pmTwo more episodes to watch and I'll have finished season II.
Some thoughts about the characters on the show.
- My favorite right now is Irina.
This doesn't mean that I trust or that I agree with her methods, but she's fascinating. She's so intelligent and so charming. And she has style! I love how Lena Olin brings her to life. Every movement of Irina is just so elegant, she reminds me of a feline predator.
- Second place goes to Jack.
So cool to see how he and Irina dance around one another. He obviously doesn't trust her and she doesn't trust him. Despite that there's a lot of attraction there.
- Third place goes to Arvin Sloane.
Strangely enough his character arc reminds me of Anakin from Star Wars at this point in the show. He and Anakin share one character trait: They would do *everything* to protect the woman they love. Both cross all moral boundaries to achieve this goal. Both actually in some way cause the death of the woman they love by their actions. It also seems that Arvin Sloane has a Destiny waiting for him, too. :-)
- I'd like to see more of Will who is quite a remarkable character. Very resilient.
- I'm unhappy Francie died, because I liked her. It seems as if people who are not in SD-6 or in the CIA have a very high risk of dying. (See Danny, Francie and Diane.)
- Francie-The-Evil-Impostor is a good plot device and very sinister, but she's not an interesting character. She simply has no character depth. Well, I guess some people on the show just have to be plain evil.
- Sydney and Vaughn are cute together and they creators of the show are doing a good job of not making their relationship too easy.
- Sark so far I find quite boring. He's so much of a follower that he doesn't hold much interest for me. We know next to nothing about him apart from the fact that he's extremely ruthless. He's also too vain for my taste.
- Marshall Flinkmann: Why does nobody he talks to have a sense of humor? He's funny *and* he loves Star Wars - too bad nobody at the CIA appreciates this. "My name is Marshall Flinkmann and I'm here to rescue you." Go, Marshall, go!

Oh, and I maintain that Truth Takes Time is the best episode of season 2, in its heartbreaking "The Tragedy of Arvin and Emily" glory. That scene when she shows him the wire and he isn`t even angry but just asks her to go with him one last time, and she does and thereby seals her death kills me every time.
On the joyful side of things, The Getaway (in which we find out Sloane not only faked Emily's death - twice - but used Jack to frame Ariana Kane for a crime no one had committed, and while he was at it sets up the Alliance for destruction, pocketing millions) always is my guilty "Go, Arvin, Go!" episode.
I didn't find Sark very interesting, either. Actually, it took season 4 (in which he's only for two episodes) for me to see any dimensions.
Marshall is adorable, and has much goodness coming up.
Enjoy Irina while you can. She's not in season 3, for the simple reason that Lena Olin didn't want to spend another year in the US. It's not until the last episodes of season 4 that J.J. Abrams was able to woo her back.

Date: 2005-07-26 09:09 pm (UTC)Oh, I'll miss Irina in season 3. :-(
Looks as if Marshall will finally get some love.
If I had to pick one guy from the show to spend my life with, I'd pick him. He's the guy who would redo your house in such a way you'd never have to hoover again. It would all be automatic. :-)

So true, though if he's not at home when one of the gadgets break down, I'd be screwed. I certainly couldn't repair them...
