I've watched ALIAS up to the two parter "Passage". After Irina and Jack put my TV screen on fire with their UST, I decided it was time for a little break. :-)

Irina is definitely growing on me. What can be better than Misunderstood!Villain?! :-)

The funny thing is: We know that she's an excellent liar. And yet, it's so easy to believe that she never meant to harm Sydney and only shot her to keep her safe. And yes, I want to believe her! But still I remain skeptic until I've collected further data.

I really wish Sydney would do the same. But Sydney SuperSpy is very gullible. She so much wants to be part of a happy family that she's very vulnerable to expressions of love.

Well, just one more reason for me to enjoy ALIAS. We get characters with many layers, strengths and weaknesses. These characters may be great spies and have no problem memorizing long codes or performing dangerous stunts, but when it comes to normal interaction with other people they have a hard time. :-)

Since yesterday, I'm watching Firefly once more and oh, there are no words to express how much I love this show!!

The Firefly universe feels very real - like a place you could step into to take some holiday.
I like the mix of cultures and history (modern tech exists next to primitive ways).
I also like how the characters talk: On TV, usually one character talks after another so everything can be clearly understood. In real life, there are many occasions where this just doesn't happen. Well, Firefly takes that into account. People sitting around the table at mealtimes talk simultanously or interrupt one another and it just feels so real you want to sit there too and join in.

The characters could easily be stereotypes (e.g. Jayne = the tough guy, Kaylee = the sweet girl), but they are not! Every one has little character quirks that make them truly come to life. And they have the talent to surprise you with their actions as well. It delighted me to see that Jayne knows a word like "pretentious" or that Zoe doesn't want to spend time on a core planet or that Kaylee likes dresses with ruffles. :-)

And the plot of the episodes is good, too. So far there's not one show I didn't enjoy!

Some of my favorite quotes - just for fun:
Pitter patter. The sound of tiny feet in combat boots.
She's terse. I can be terse.

And now I have to finish watching "War Stories". :-)

It's as good a point as any, though I'd rather you watched three more episodes, because after The Getaway, the show takes a major turn as one of the basic premises changes, so that's the ideal point to pause.

And world on the fiery Irina and Jack UST, of course. It crackles each time they're in the same scene.

But Sydney SuperSpy is very gullible. She so much wants to be part of a happy family that she's very vulnerable to expressions of love.

Except when Sloane is expressing it.*veg* Okay, now seriously: I think Sydney very much wants to believe that she wasn't just an accident (or the symbol of her father's failure to discover a Russian spy), that her parents really loved each other on both sides, and in Passage you can see she's getting majorly invested not just in her own relationship with her mother but in Jack's with Irina as well. And yes, that's a very risky thing to do.

These characters may be great spies and have no problem memorizing long codes or performing dangerous stunts, but when it comes to normal interaction with other people they have a hard time.

Boy, do they ever...

People sitting around the table at mealtimes talk simultanously or interrupt one another and it just feels so real you want to sit there too and join in.

Yes, that's a striking feature of the show. And the meals are the emotional core more often than not.

The characters could easily be stereotypes (e.g. Jayne = the tough guy, Kaylee = the sweet girl), but they are not!

That's the Joss Whedon magic. He does this on his other two shows as well - takes classic stereotypes and twists them into life.

She's terse. I can be terse.

Darling Wash. Go and have fun with War Stories.

Well, I've only got four more Firefly episodes waiting for me anyway. (Which is sad. Why can't there be five seasons of Firefly as well?)
I think I'll finish watching Firefly and then take up ALIAS again as remedy against the loss of Firefly.
By the way, do you have the third season of ALIAS as well and could I borrow it?

Small wonder their toaster went up in flames. :-)

Yes, it's especially clear on the train ride when she's so happy that her parents are reminiscing about their shared past. The hotel with the sundaes.

Now I'm thinking about watching "Buffy" and "Angel" as well. :-)
It's just so amazing that Whedon makes me care for Jayne. He's the character I'd usually would find most boring. In the Star Trek universe, I never managed to like Klingons. But Whedon's given Jayne a sense of humor and a certain smartness and for that I like him. (Thinking about it I'm coming to realize that I couldn't stand Klingons, because they had absolutely no sense of humor.)

You tell me. Insert vow of eternal hatred towards Fox Network here. But at least we're getting the Big Damn Movie.

I've got the third and fourth season of Alias, though not on DVD, and will copy them for you. Mail me your posting address, I'm in Bamberg now so shall have to send them via snail mail.

Now I'm thinking about watching "Buffy" and "Angel" as well. :-)

By all means. Once you're through with Alias, I can start borrowing you my Buffy DVDs.*g*

Klingons: not true. Dax' old pal Koloth had a sense of humour, and Worf's mate Key'lahr. In fact, most Klingons except for Worf, who overcompensated for being raised by humans through being more Klingon than Klingons. I still know what you mean about the man they call Jayne, though.*g*
