Snow

We've already had a lot of snow this year. In fact, it was a perfect winter so far: It got cold early in December and stayed cold, we also had snow nearly for the entire time. But the snow fall right now tops everything so far.

It snowed heavily on Friday morning, but then it got warm and the snow was basically all gone in the evening. I went to bed cheerfully, hoping for spring. Woke up fairly early on Saturday, because so much light came in through the window. I got up, looked outside, and it was snowing heavily. And it hasn't stopped snowing since then. (I think the snow is about 70 cm deep so far, when I stand in our garden it comes up over my knees.)

The problem is that it's not really cold, just around 0° C and the snow is *incredibly* heavy and sticky. It doesn't slide of plants or anything else, it sticks to it. Our lilac tree lost one of his branches this morning, because the snow was too heavy for it. (I hope we can save the rest of the tree, because I was fond of it.) All of the trees and bushes are bending under the weight of the snow. When we went to see a friend this evening, we saw numerous trees that had lost branches. In some cases, the branches have fallen onto the road and are completely blocking it.

Looked at the weather forecast and it seems the snowfall won't stop for the next couple of days.

Sticky snow, however, makes the best snowmen. ;)

A bit of sticky snow is fine, but this is way too much.
We have steep roofs in our area, despite this the snow doesn't slide down again.

Check out this picture (http://www.spiegel.de/img/0,1020,590567,00.jpg) of firemen clearing the roof of a house from the snow. The roof would have collapsed under the snow otherwise.

Yep, and as far as I know there's no public transport at all. Just good that it's Sunday and I don't have to go anywhere today, hope that you can also stay at home. If there's still no public transport tomorrow I at least can walk since it takes me only 30 minutes by foot to go to my work but most people are not as fortunate... Well, we shall see... Hope that you can save your lilac tree!

Was in town today to visit [personal profile] selenak. Subway trains are still running, there are no trams, though. Oh, and I saw some busses.

I would be quite happy to steal all of your snow, darling. Muah.

Well, I can send you some. We've got enough to share it. How many kilos would you like? *smile*
