Officially, I'm still on hiatus after watching Afterlife.
Last week was way too busy to view more episodes; when I came home from work I was just tired. However, Once More With Feeling was one of the episodes with which [personal profile] selenak showed me how splendid Buffy was, so I decided to rewatch it this morning with my boyfriend. I simply wanted to see his reaction as he's so not into musicals. What can I say: He *loved* it. Even watched the "Making Of" feature and rewatched the "They've Got The Mustard Out" scene. :-)

To sum it up: Joss is a genius! Taking a genre and changing it in such a way that it becomes accessible to people even if they never liked this genre before is a real gift. (Along similar lines, I've now seen people take to Firefly who dislike Science Fiction and/or Western.)

Yes. While I had long worshipped at Joss's shrine, this one made me wonder why everyone on earth wasn't worshipping right along with me.

Sheer genius.

Yes! Why the heck doesn't he have a new show running right now? Why did they cancel Firefly or Angel after season 5. I just don't get it.

ONCE MORE WITH FEELING is sheer genius, particular when you are following the series.

When I first watched it, I enjoyed it tremendously.
When I rewatched it today, I was close to tears at times. And I still have to watch 2 or 3 episode until it really comes up. But seeing Buffy just functioning (going through the motions) and trying so hard to come across as normal, has become very painful to watch.

And there are Anya and Xander having the wedding chitters - and can see a gloomy ending ahead already.

Also looks like Tara will break up with Willow.

On the surface it's a fun episode, but at the same time you could just as easily cry while watching it.

It does have a sadness about it, doesn't it? Finally letting them know she was in heaven, Spike saving her from burning to death and his song..

You have to go on living..so one of us is living. (waaaaah)

You have a few episodes to go to lead in, but certainly as far as you got, you get the idea of how incedible that episode really is.

The irony as the Spike is already dead, but he gives the best advice as to what living truly means. Awsome!

So, Thalia, what episodes have you seen?

All episodes of Buffy season 1 - 5. Plus season 6: Bargaining, Afterlife and OMWF.

So, selenak didn't show you anything after OMWF? How about from ATS?

She showed me some episodes of the Darla arc, but by now I have seen them all in the right order. I've seen bits and pieces of "Destiny" and "The Girl in Question", but they were purely Angel-Spike related and didn't contain any big spoilers.
I know that the mortality rate on Angel is high.

Oh, and I remember seeing parts of one Buffy episode on German TV - here Buffy was living in the Summers' house together with a bunch of girls and there was a fight near a fastfood chain. I found it all very odd. :-)
Since I still haven't seen this episode so far, it has to be season 6 or season 7. Buffy was less gloomy than in season 6 so I guess it won't come up too soon.

That would be season seven.. lol.

i have used OMWF to make many a convert.

part of the cleverness of the ep is that it works for people who love musicals, and for people who hate them (by mocking so many of hte conventions)

So true. My roommate isn't at all a fan of musicals in general, but she absolutely adores the Buffy musical.

Yes, it's such a great episode. Both funny and sad.

How are you doing by the way? Haven't read from you in some time.

I'm not feeling really active. I'm still reading my flist, but interaction is a bit beyond me at the moment. I'm not entirely sure why, but I seem to be in 'read-only' mode right now.

I can totally understand.
It's good to see that you are still around. *smile*
