- Not sure I liked the first scene with the monks. It's an okay scene, but it could have been a lot better. I just wasn't convinced by the actors.
- Buffy has become a very good fighter, but I think she has started to talk too much. Yes, she always did it, but now she overdoes it. She's also too convinced that she will win the fight and isn't careful enough, IMO.
- Buffy is rather jealous of her sister. Dawn is the baby and gets all the attention. Buffy would need some tender loving care as well, but feels to grown up to ask for it and therefore is left out.
- The security guy reminded me of the homeless man Dawn encountered in the street. Both can obviously see more than meets the eye.
- The woman in the red dress who is called the Beast by the men was obviously inspired by the Apocalyptic Beast. We don't get a name for her, do we? (In the transcripts she's called Glory, though.)
Not sure what I think of this character yet. In the way she moves the actress reminds me a bit too much of manic Faith.
- Anya: I'm sorry. I'm nearly out of money. I've never had to afford things before and it's making me bitter.
Oh Anya. :-)
- Buffy always look for a supernatural explanation first - which makes sense seeing how much the supernatural influences her live on a daily basis. She needs to have a foe to fight and will have hard time dealing with it when she discovers that some things have no supernatural reasons and cannot be fought by superpowers.
Buffy: They'll come at me through my family.
Giles: Who will?
Buffy: I don't know... yet. But whatever touched this guy, it made him see through what the rest of us are seeing. He knew someone's hurting my mum and they're trying to get to me.
Giles: It's possible but still... the ramblings of a madman aren't much to go on.
Buffy: Yeah, but it's a start. We need to find out who's making my mum sick and how.
Willow: Then what?
Buffy: Then I hunt them... find them... and kill them.
- Nice to see Anya has a head for business. Love the way she's behaving around customers: Please go!
- Riley: So I'm not quite Super Guy anymore. It was borrowed power anyway. Had to give it back some time.
Buffy: I know you can handle yourself. I just didn't want to see you get hurt.
Riley: Maybe instead of you trying to take care of me, we agree to take care of each other. Deal?
I heart Riley. However, it won't be that easy to do what he suggested. He is weaker now, so Buffy will try to protect him which will result in Riley feeling powerless.
- I like the way they filmed the vision sequence. Especially the scenes where Buffy sees Dawn flickering in and out of pictures and her room are neat.
- Poor Dawn. Must be quite a shock when Buffy says "You're not my sister." and then shoves her against the wall.
- Giles: Buffy, you've heard me say this before but do be careful. Anything that goes unnamed is usually an object of deep worship or great fear- maybe both.
Once again we get the "power of names" theme.
- After Buffy confronting Dawn, all scenes with Dawn in it get rather sinister. If I hadn't known that she's an innocent, I might have thought that she was an evil force invading the Summers family.
- Spike seeing Buffy again for the first time after he has realised that he has a crush on her:
The scene made me laugh. It seems having a crush brings out Spike's inner William. Because his mumbled Hi, Buffy. and his final comment You know, I really hope so because God knows you need some satisfaction in life besides shagging Captain Cardboard and I never really liked you anyway and... and you have stupid hair. have so much of a shy youngster in them. This time around Buffy actually does him a favour when she hits him, as it allows him to pull himself back together and slip into his familiar snarky pattern.
- The Beast losing the fight against Buffy because she's defeated by her own temper is interesting. I wonder if this is some foreshadowing or a big hint at the Beast's weakness.
- So what does it mean exacty that Dawn is the key? The monk gives a brief explanation that leaves many questions open.
Monk: The Key is energy. It's a portal. It opens the door...
Buffy: The Dagon Sphere?
Monk: No. For centuries it had no form at all. My brethren, its only keepers. Then the abomination found us. We had to hide the Key, gave
it form, molded it flesh... made it human and sent it to you.
- The final scene between Buffy and Dawn is lovely. Dawn isn't Buffy's real sister, but Buffy feels a great tenderness for her nevertheless.

Date: 2005-12-27 12:30 am (UTC)And I think it's an interesting development in the Dawn story.
And we'll come to know the Beast as "Glory" -- she develops a bit as an antagonist; the Faith comparison is interesting. I won't say much more now.

Beast/Glory: you'll see.
Monks and Key backstory: there is a lovely fanfic by
The Dawn-is-evil suspicion is played as a deliberate red herring here of course, but it also allows us to see it from Buffy's pov. (Meanwhile, poor Dawn really has a bad day...)
Final scene: love it to bits. Buffy accepting Dawn as her sister despite knowing the truth is crucial.
