Angel - Season 1 impressions (episode 16)

A summary can be found here.
Regarding the plot the episode is mediocre (Angel meets The Gladiator), but it gives us the great chance to see Cordelia and Wesley work together! Nice.
- I wonder who put the "Demons, Demons, Demons" website together. :-)
- Cordy and Wesley are bitching at one another in the beginning of the episode and Angel calls them "children". Heh.
- When Angel gets captured we know he has the big advantage that he has two people who care for him and will look for him. It took me by surprise, though, how well Cordelia and Wesley manage.
* Wesley manages to stand up to Ernie and his three goons.
* Cordy and Wesley get into the club by pretending to be police officers.
* Cordy snatches one of the enchanted bracelets.
* And Wesley - together with Cordelia providing him with horsehair from her palomino :-) - creates a key that unlocks the bracelet.
Of course, things don't go perfectly smooth, but overall I'm very impressed.
- Love the last scene:
Cut to Wesley and Cordy supporting Angel between them as they walk out of the club.
Cordy: “Angel you don’t look so – well, it’s a good thing that you heal fast.”
Angel: “Yeah. It’s also a good thing you found me in time.”
Cordy: “We weren’t going to let anything happen to you.”
Wesley: “No.”
Cordy: “Well, I mean, beyond the slavery and the severe beatings and stuff. Wesley came up with the key!”
Wesley: “But Cordelia came up with the key to the key! In a clinch moment.”
Angel: “You both did great. And - I think we did a - good thing here tonight.”
Wesley looking after the departing demons: “Yes. We set the captives free.”
Cordy: “Well, actually, didn’t we set – a bunch of - demons free?”
Wesley: “Oh. Well. Technically – yes.”
- One neat twist of the episode is that the human in the bar are more monstrous than the monster.
- I've read the name "Lilah" on some of the fanfiction pages, so I expect we will be seeing more of Lilah Morgan at some time.

Cue Selena and I sitting on our hands and whistling "Dixie" (or the German equivalent).

Date: 2005-11-27 12:01 am (UTC)Very cool. It's nice to see that people enjoy reading my wordy entries.
I wonder if I'll manage to write entries for *all* the episodes. Just did the math: There are still 165 episodes to watch and comment on. Oh my. - But it's fun and it stops me from watching 3 episodes per day. I don't want to watch the episodes too quickly, because then it's over too soon.

Date: 2005-11-27 07:28 am (UTC)I'm fine with "Dixie", though "Ich weiß nicht, was soll es bedeuten" would also be apropos.*g*
This is also the first episode to showcase Wesley is actually a great shot. Which, err, we'll get back to in this show.*g*
