The following is a series of stories written after Star Wars - The Phantom Menace .
Some of the things happening in it, have been disproved by what happened in Attack of the Clones and Anakin is a bit too precocious at times IMO, but nevertheless these stories are an enjoyable read about the early training days of Anakin.

The Malastere series by Smitty and Kerry Smith never fails to get a smile out of me. There are some highly memorable moments in it like Anakin and Obi-Wan going to see a podrace together.

part 1 - The House That Obi-Wan Built by Smitty
Anakin and Obi-Wan head for an isolated life on Malastere in the hopes of solving their problems with each other.

part 2 - Sofa, So Good by Smitty
Why would anyone want Obi-Wan's grody old couch?

part 3 - House of Cards by Smitty
Anakin and Obi-Wan's reach the breaking point with one another...just as Anakin's life is put in danger by bounty hunters.

part 4 - Anakin's Birthday by Kerry Smith
Anakin takes time out of his training to celebrate his special day, with a little help from his Master and his friends.

I'll try to post more recs in the future. I've read *a lot* of fanfiction over the years and have discovered that some enjoyable stories are very little known.
(Reccing stories could also be a neat trick to keep track of my own favorites.)

This series is comfort reading for me. Obi-Wan and Anakin are both a bit too happy and cute to be realistic and in character (in my opinion), but that's also the reason why I love the stories... And I think there's some quality of O&A relationship which the Malastare series manages to show, and which often lacks in fanfic about Anakin and Obi-Wan.

Yes, the series is not perfectly in character, e.g. I don't believe Anakin would be so difficult, not when he's this young. He would be silent and on his best behaviour for fear of being sent away. Obi-Wan most likely would not start a fight in the podracing stadion, either. But like you said: It's comfort reading. And some moments between Anakin and Obi-Wan are spot on, especially when we take into account this was written before AOTC/ROTS.

The other story I recced, the one by geo3, is less comforting, but captures all the characters perfectly.
